Waning Tides

How did we drift apart?
Two souls intertwined
The sharing of one heart
Convergence of a mind

With you I felt complete
Fuller than before
Yet I was giving less
You were giving more

Your grace fine as silver
Meant for serving Kings
I am but a pauper
Doomed to lesser things

My half not near enough
I’ll take that to the grave
Alone I swam too far
For even you to save

I used to see forever
As we gazed beyond the swell
But eyes I thought were mine
Belonged to you as well

Farewell my angel dear
I must set you free
Free to find the man
That I could never be

I absolutely adore love poems! You did well with the rhyme and passion in your poem! Thanks for sharing it! :)

I knew you have a poet's soul, and this one proves it. Who among us hasn't felt inadequate, that he hasn't given enough to the love of his life? Well written, Dan... very nice job.

Very nice. The gentle rhyme wraps with the melancholy tone to make a compelling whole.

Thanks all. I'm not sure about a poet's soul, but I felt like I'd been neglecting the poetry.

This one reminds me of my ex-wife.

There is a poignancy here that is so touching. Letting someone go so selflessly is always a mark of true strength and courage. Lovely.

Very beautiful poem - the melody flowed and the words, well, they indeed touched my soul. I feel for the man in this poem; but alas sometimes that's how life is.

I agree, there's a poet's soul hiding in there! I think this is one of your best.
